TBS’s “Around 40” Won Shanghai TV Festival Magnolia Awards’ Special Award
TBS’s “Around 40,” a huge hit with great social impact in Japan last year, won the 15th Shanghai Television Festival Magnolia Awards’ “Special Award for Asian TV Series.” Other titles nominated were Nippon Television’s “SAITOU san,” Fuji Television’s “Galileo” and TV Asahi’s “Aibou.” A majority Chinese member panel of judges praised the drama series by saying “This story of three women around age 40 skillfully depicts how this generation’s views regarding career, romance and marriage differ substantially from those of traditional Japanese society.

TBS’s “Ah, You Are Really Gone Now” Won Silver in Shanghai’s Best TV Film
TBS drama “Ah, You Are Really Gone Now” won the Silver Award in the 15th Shanghai Television Festival Magnolia Awards’ Best TV Film category. This single episode drama, with Masakazu Tamura playing the leading role and featuring Sumiko Fuji, Rei Dan, Masami Nagasawa and others, was well received when aired in January this year in Japan. There were a total of 5 Finalists from around the world.

A First for Japanese Commercial Television! “Ah, You’re Really Gone Now” Lead, Masakazu Tamura, Wins ‘Outstanding Actor’ at the Monte-Carlo TV Festival
Masakazu Tamura won ‘Outstanding Actor’ at the Monte-Carlo TV Festival for his work in the TV special “Ah, You’re Really Gone Now” which aired on TBS on Jan. 12th, 2009. NHK has won this title in the past; however this is the first time that a commercial television station in Japan has been accorded this honor.

G4 held Ninja Warrior Fan Day at Santa Monica Beach
On April 4th, G4, the broadcaster of Ninja Warrior in the U.S. held an event for Ninja Warrior fans in Santa Monica, California. G4’s “Attack Of The Show” host Olivia Munn and competitors from Ninja Warrior were among the featured guests. At the event, the fans not only had a chance to meet these stars, but could also attempt to run a mini Ninja Warrior course. The course’s obstacles included Spider Jump, Cliff Hanger and Warped Wall and ended with the famous red buzzer.

AMERICA’S FUNNIEST HOME VIDEOS Joins the Smithsonian
AMERICA’S FUNNIEST HOME VIDEOS (AFV), the American version of TBS’s FUN TV WITH KATO-CHAN AND KEN-CHAN: FUNNY HOME VIDEO CORNER, became a permanent part of the entertainment collections of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History when executive producer Vin Di Bona donated artifacts from the beginning of the series at a ceremony at the museum on April 8th American time (9th Japan time).

Takuya Kimura (SMAP) makes his first return to a TBS drama since his lead in the smash hit series, “The Family” (’07). This time, Kimura plays Ryusuke Tsukumo, a neuroscientist studying human nature at the Metropolitan Police Department’s National Research Institute of Police Science.
