Outline
The INTERNATIONAL DRAMA FESTIVAL in TOKYO is an event set up in 2007 through the cooperation of commercial broadcasters, NHK, producers of TV programs and movies, and rights-holders’ groups. The event aims to disseminate outstanding Japanese dramas to the world.

The INTERNATIONAL DRAMA FESTIVAL in TOKYO comprises of two main categories, Tokyo Drama Awards and Overseas Expansion.
Tokyo Drama Awards is an official event of CoFesta and consists of an awards ceremony and a party, held every autumn in order to commend world-class Japanese dramas. At the same time, we showcase excellent foreign dramas as “special award dramas.” We also organize symposiums and slide shows for the awarded dramas to deepen mutual understanding of one another’s countries though program interaction.

The other category of Overseas Expansion consists of Cool Japan Events in MIPCOM in Cannes, the world biggest international content fair, and Japan Pavilion at ATF in Singapore. In addition, we run the “J series festival” in certain Asian countries to showcase Japanese programs directly to audiences. We refer to this as “promotion type” expansion.

Major promotion events were held in Thailand in 2013, 2014, and 2016 and in Indonesia in 2015.
