MIDEM is one of the world’s largest music related exhibitions, held from February 1st (Sat) to February 4th (Tue) in Cannes, France.
MPAJ opened the Japan Stand with JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization) to promote Japanese music and the music-related businesses in Japan to the world.
On Feb.1, seminar titled “KARAOKE & PACHINKO: How the song writers are paid!” was presented by Nintendo and Kyoraku, respectively. They explained the nature of respective business and how the music copyrights were monetized through those uses. At the same time MPAJ set up “Experience Zone” to sample Karaoke, and Pachinko next to Japan Stand. “Experience Zone” was a huge success with full of visitors to try the games.
On Feb.2, “MPAJ Song Pitching Workshop” was held. We invited the world’s noted music experts as guest speakers, to comment songs submitted by songwriters from the world.
First half was for songs which aim to break into Japanese music market from overseas and the second half was for those which aim to break into international market from Japan. Our workshop was broadcasted on live at Ustream.
We also plan to archive the review in our MPAJ site ( http://www.mpaj.or.jp
